This only reflects the loss in productivity due to an employee absence from work.  Presenteeism represents loss in productivity caused by an employee having an illness and coming to work.  According to the Harvard Business Review, more employees are working when they are sick, costing employers about two thirds of the cost of absenteeism, annually.  Not only does the sick employee’s productivity suffer, but there is a risk of spreading the illness to healthy employees.

Absenteeism and presenteeism only account for productivity losses due to employee illness.  Also, consider the loss in revenue associated with one of your customers getting an illness from your facility.  This could have unimaginable repercussions to a business’ reputation.

INFLUENZA

How effective is the flu vaccine?

CDC conducts studies each year to determine how well the flu vaccine protects against flu illness. While vaccine effectiveness can vary, recent studies show that the vaccine reduces the risk of flu illness by about 50% among the treated population during seasons when most circulating flu viruses are like the vaccine viruses.
