Protecting our Firefighters

Have you ever really thought about what our firefighters do? They fight fire of course, but they also are first to respond in many cases to car wrecks and other types of medical calls. They are first to assist when our Emergency Medical Services need support.

Today, fewer than 4 percent of fire department calls are for fires. Meanwhile, requests for medical aid more than quadrupled between 1980 and 2013, to more than 21 million, according to the National Fire Prevention Association. In other words, for every structure fire a fire department responds to, it receives 44 medical calls, on average.

Research studies over the past decade have determined that firefighters are more than twice as likely to develop certain forms of cancer as the general public. During Fires, they come into contact with many chemicals that are put out by burning plastics, and other types of materials found in a burning structure or its contents. These contaminates are absorbed into their bodies through the skin and also inhaled post-fire through contaminated fire gear. It is imperative that all gear is cleaned and decontaminated to NFPA 1851 Standards.

However, with the decline of fires and the increase of medical assistant calls, our firefighters are now also in common contact with blood, bacteria, and even viruses. Fire gear is made to withstand extreme temps and is made to protect the fire fighter but also has the disadvantage of being heavy and hot, causing the firefighter to sweat. This gear and the accessories are complex with many cracks and crevices and hard to reach areas that cannot be cleaned properly or completely with traditional spray and wipe methods.

We at Biosan know the importance of our firefighters and the services they provide and would like to partner with our Fire Services to provide the healthiest environment possible for our service men and women. With the increase of calls to service and contact with blood, bacteria, and viruses it is important to make sure the best methods are used to ensure the safety and health of each firefighter. Biosan uses cutting edge technology to kill up to 99.999% of bacteria, fungus, and viruses including MRSA and other Staph related infections. Our technology allows us to sanitize not only non-porous surfaces but also penetrate permeable equipment and gear killing the bacteria where it hides. Our equipment sanitizing methods are safe and do not require the use of any harmful chemicals or cleaners.

We also offer services to sanitize and disinfect your facilities and emergency service vehicles. Our facility and emergency service vehicle solution has 100% and 360°coverage of all sprayed areas. Our goal is to make sure you are ready and healthy when the call comes in.
